Beechwood Agri Services offers steam flaked grains as well as custom steam flaking. Steam flaking grain is a process that involves steaming the grain and then rolling it into a flake. This combination of moisture, heat and rolling results in swelling of the starch particles and breaking up of the protein matrix holds unprocessed starch molecules. This essentially results in greater starch digestibility. The starch digestibility can be about 10% greater than in dry rolled corn and 7% greater than in high-moisture corn. This increased digestibility can translate to improved performance in weight gain and lactation.
